It's Over!

Your business on the Internet is not the same as it once was. The days of having a web site are over. The days of Google sending you customers are over. The days of pretty web pages are over.

That was Web 1.0.

This isn't about any particular candidate, either. In fact, after he lost the election, Senator John McCain has a whole group of people who are helping him ride the wave, even though he has admitted to being technically challenged.

Many of the leaders of the world have caught the wave, as well:

  • The Dalai Lama

  • Oprah

  • Larry King

  • ...and many others
are all harnessing the power of the wave and riding it into the future.

The writing's on the wall

Of course, you can fight it and want to stick with the same old 1.0. You may survive for a short amount of time... but you cannot tread water forever! The lifeboat is here, the helicopter has just dropped the ladder, it's time for you to grab on and get ready for the ride of your life.

I can understand if you don't believe me. Last time this happened, some of the brightest minds on the planet didn't see it coming...

I remember when everyone thought web pages were just for college kids and socially-inept geeks. I also remember the first time a web address was in a TV ad (espn.com). There were a few of my clients who took my advice and took to the web with a solid business strategy early on. Today, the vital important of the web for business is obvious. Your customers use the web instead of the Yellow Pages, the phone, or print advertising. Once it was the new Wild West. Not any more. The web has come a long way since those early days. Companies who figure out how to use the web are successful. Those who didn't got left behind. Companies like Amazon.com and eBay exploded overnight, while companies like Mervyns went bankrupt.

We're at another one of those times.
